With a focus on lifestyle and entertaining the centrepiece of this kitchen is the grandeur of the over-sized island bringing concealed functionality in the heart of this home. The coastal colour theme is evident in the light timber, and Sanded Heron island benchtops that draws the eye-line out through to the coastal landscape beyond. Cabinetry on the far wall reminiscent of the ocean depths in is also used on the internal drawers.
The suspended bulkhead is bold, stabilising and provides the functionality to house the range hood and ducting to be concealed and then exit through the northern wall. The UM422G-12S hood was specified by Gavin for its stunning slimline athletics and for its ability to work within the extremely restricted conditions of this project. This kitchen was on the ground floor of the home with a solid concrete ceiling so there for the hood had to ducted through a series of custom bulkheads to allow ducting to the exterior motor.
The key feature and magic of this kitchen is perhaps in those items that are still concealed. Technology has been introduced through the centrepiece uprising of the island to reveal four dimensions of activity and functionality. Revealed is additional storage orbreakfast zone, cooking station pantry essentials, a secret homework – media tech zone and fully stock bar. The under bench storage is unsurpassed –with drawers, cupboards, shelving and two wine fridges, featuring mitred edges the timber appears to flow and wrap the dimensions of the island.
The detailed lines and concealed functionality are minimalist in design but the grand over scaled inclusions are impactful. Bi-fold doors at the end of the kitchen allow ease of access to the outdoors and the beach, opens the entire space onto an entertaining area and direct access into garden and views out onto the beach.
Gavin's coastal / industrial design has created an inspired space, dedicated to family time enjoyed relaxing, cooking and entertaining together in this gem of a home starved for some Designer TLC.
